How to Create a Gourmet Lunch for Under $5.00

Here is a recipe for a delicious and healthy gourmet lunch that you can create for around $5.00. You can use any type of lunch meat. My personal favorite is the Boar's Head brand. Although a little more expensive than commercial brands, Boar's Head meats do not contain by-products, cereals or fillers. Once you wrap your lips around Boar's Head luncheon meats, you'll never settle for less.

Healthy lunch

Yield: 1 serving
Prep Time: 10 minutes


1 Toufayan Wheat wrap
3 slices Black Forest Smoked Ham (thin, deli sliced)
3 slices Pastrami (thin, deli sliced)
1 slice White American cheese
2-3 slices Tomato, sliced thin
Deli mustard, to taste

Fruit side dish:
1/4 mini Watermelon, rind removed, sliced
1/4 Mango, skin removed, sliced
1/2 Kiwi fruit, skin removed, sliced


  1. Spread deli mustard on wheat wrap.
  2. Place ham, pastrami, cheese and tomato slices on top of wrap.
  3. Fold one side of wrap, up and over ingredients. Roll wrap up, making certain the fold stays in place.
  4. Garnish plate with fruit slices.
  5. Serve immediately.

You can eat this meal for lunch or dinner. You could even eat it for breakfast if you so desire. This is a great brown bag option and is considerably healthier for you than greasy fast food.

Sesame Ginger Turkey Salad Recipe

This Sesame Ginger Turkey Salad is so filling it can be served as an entree. You can easily take this to work and have a healthy lunch that costs less than $5.00 to prepare. Simply prepare the turkey the night before and store in the refrigerator. Reheat the turkey in a microwave and add to the salad mix.



Serves 2
Prep Time: 15 minutes


8 ounces Turkey Breast, sliced into 1/2-inch slices
1/2 cup Lawry's Sesame Ginger marinade
1 bag Salad Mix
2 medium Carrots, sliced, diced, or Julliene
2 medium stalks Celery, sliced or diced
3-4 Green Onions, whites only, sliced
1/2 medium Cucumber, sliced or diced
1 medium Tomato, chopped, seeds removed
1/3 cup Marzetti's Honey Balsamic Dressing
1/2 cup Sargento's 6 Cheese Italian Blend, optional


  1. Add turkey slices to small skillet. Add Sesame Ginger marinade and mix well.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat for 8-10 minutes; stirring occasionally.
  3. Rinse and dry salad mix and vegetables.
  4. Prepare vegetables; then place salad mix and vegetables in a large plastic bag.
  5. Seal bag and shake well to incorporate ingredients.
  6. Arrange salad mix onto plates.
  7. Top each salad with 4 ounces of turkey slices.
  8. Add two tablespoons of salad dressing to each salad.
  9. Top with cheese if desired.
  10. Serve immediately

Balsamic and Olive Oil Marinated Pork Shoulder Steak Recipe

Here is a quick and easy way to turn ordinary pork shoulder steaks into mouth-watering delicacies. Serve with your favorite sides such as green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, cucumber and tomato salad, roasted potatoes,  or try something new like bacon wrapped new potatoes.

Serves 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Marinade Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10-12 minutes


2 6-ounce Pork Shoulder Steaks, sliced approximately 1/2-inch thick
1/3-cup Balsamic vinegar
1/3 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 cloves Garlic, minced


  1. Combine Balsamic vinegar, olive oil and garlic in a small bowl and whisk to incorporate ingredients.
  2. Place Pork Shoulder Steaks in a glass baking dish and pour marinade over each steak. Use a pastry brush to evenly distribute marinade.
  3. Place pork steaks into refrigerator for about 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat broiler.
  5. Place steaks on broiler pan and insert into oven.
  6. Broil pork steaks for 5-6 minutes, then turn and broil for another 5-6 minutes.
  7. Let stand for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to serving plate and serve immediately.
